Pre-editing and post-editing are activities associated with machine translation. The need to access information, as a direct result of globalization, has forced the translation community to turn to machine translation. This has created the necessity to pre-edit texts that are to be translated and later post-edit them after the automatic translation has been done.

Pre-editing consists of modifying the source texts until the target text makes sense.

Post-editing consists of modifying the output of the machine translation to obtain a text that is acceptable according to its various uses.
